Covid-19 has drastically impacted the travel industry. Pilots, travel agents, house keepers, restaurant owners, bartenders, tour guides and so many more – in every country near and far. This is such a fluid situation for this industry with so many changes constantly on going. I think and pray for all of these people so often. Back in April, I remember seeing a video from a hotel in Jamaica and the beach was empty. This was not typical for this destination in April. It brought me to tears. I kept thinking of all those hard working people who help make our vacations so special. Their income and livelihood was gone in a matter of days.
Over the last six months I have reflected a lot. Here are a few things I have learned so far in 2020.
Four Things I’ve Learned About Travel in 2020
I absolutely LOVE being a travel advisor. I love everything about it. Hearing what my clients are dreaming of and putting it together in a personalized package. Chatting with my clients and getting to know them. Answering all their questions and then hearing all about it when they get back. Some even share their photos with me.
I get just as excited for my clients to take their trip as it was my own. I realized this when in March I had to cancel hundreds of clients. I cried for them, hearing their pain and uncertainty.
This industry WILL bounce back. It’s been hit hard in the past. We will come back stronger. I will continue to ask myself how I can better serve my clients and keep them feeling comfortable and excited about travel. Hard times are the best time for growth!
When it is time for you to travel, I will be here for you!
The Show Must Go On
This looks different for everyone. I have had quite a few clients already book for Christmas 2020 and Winter 2021. Some have told me they are waiting for school to get through a few weeks. I am here, please know that. I will be honored to assist you when you are ready.
I hope you find this encouraging and exciting. If you know me, I am more of a talker than a writer. This has challenged me to put into words what I have been feeling, what is going on, my thoughts and tips in the last six months. Thank you for your patience as I navigate through this.
